I teach the Piano for all grades (beginner to Diploma) and welcome pupils of all ages. I am very happy to work with adults, whether you want to pass examinations or just play for fun. My oldest pupil to date (I hope she won’t mind me saying) is 78 years old!
There is no minimum age for children to start to play the piano but they should want to try to play the piano and be able to concentrate for a reasonable period of time. It is unlikely they will be ready before they are 5 or 6 years of age. Often they may be quite a bit older.
Based in Wilmslow, Cheshire, my dedicated music room has two pianos, which makes it really easy to demonstrate ways to improve technique or musicality. Music lessons should be enjoyable and I want pupils to love the piano in the way I do. It is a great skill to have – no matter what your age.
I also offer Music Theory tuition for Instrumentalists, whose music teachers don’t offer the classes. For the uninitiated, once you get to the higher grades with your instrumental examinations you can’t progress past Grade 5 until you also pass your Grade 5 Theory examination. For my own pupils, I include a little theory in every piano lesson so you shouldn’t need many dedicated lessons once you get to that level.
